KROBODAN BEADS LIMITED (KBL) was founded in 2007. KBL is an affiliate of the Krobo Danish Association an NGO operating in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Our mission is to improve the lives of the disadvantaged, vulnerable and impoverished women of the rural Krobo area by providing employment opportunities through the production of glass beads and jewellery.
KBL is a Fair Trade institution—our ladies work under good conditions and are paid at a scale above the daily minimum wage. They are a strong group of ladies, who are doing all things possible to take their destiny into their own hands by creating better economic lives for themselves and their children.
Making poverty history for women
Our beads are crafted in Modern and traditional Ghanaian process. Recycled glass bottles, louvre blades and other glass items are pounded into a fine powder. Clay moulds are filled with the powder and loaded into an earthenware firing kiln.
After the beads are cast and cooled, the Krobo women use their skills and creativity to string them into necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches and other fashionable accessories
KBL beads are sold as retail items, also available in bulk to local, regional and international vendors. You’re welcome to visit us at our production facility and Showroom. You can also visit us at our permanent exhibition space at the Koforidua Bead Market, booth # B1 Krobodan Beads, adding value to authentic Krobo beads is our hallmark.
